Surry Hills update28 February 2019
Finishing works are underway in Surry Hills with kerb and guttering, paving and light poles the main focus. Work has also started on the pocket parks and other landscaping. Here’s what’s happening in your zone.
In zone 14, teams are continuing with footpath and kerb finishing works.
The Holt Street pocket park in zone 16 is being constructed over coming weekends. Landscaping at Elizabeth Street and Devonshire Street corner is also underway. Paving has now wrapped up on the southern side of the street, and the northern side is heading towards completion.
Works are progressing around the Surry Hills Light Rail Stop to open up Riley Street in zone 17 as soon as possible. Paving is moving along on the northern side of Devonshire Street and intersection works at Crown Street include upgrading traffic lights and reinstating footpaths, kerbs and roads.
In zone 18, Nickson Lane works have been completed and there is a significant amount of work underway on footpaths. The Bourke Street intersection was closed for a weekend in February to complete major civil works.
Traffic control signals are being installed in zone 19, while work on the new footbridge over South Dowling Street has seen the installation of street lighting and anti-throw screens.
Upcoming work in the Surry Hills precinct includes completing systems fit-out works and static testing of the substation to energise the precinct. Teams are also focussed on upgrading traffic control signals and systems fit-outs at Central Chalmers and Surry Hills Light Rail Stops. Ausgrid will have minor outages as they continue to make adjustments to the low voltage pillars.
