Surry Hills milestones
8 July 2019June was a successful month for Surry Hills with a number of milestones reached in quick succession.
A new tram parked at Central Station Chalmers Street light rail stop for a morning visit early in the month, giving people passing through the area a close up view of a Citadis X05 tram in daylight hours.
Following on from night testing throughout June in Surry Hills, day testing began on 27 June along Devonshire Street, turning heads and creating a buzz among curious pedestrians in the area.
With cyclists, pedestrians, drivers and trams interacting together, it’s important we all play our part to stay safe around light rail.
Traffic conditions have changed, and tram testing is now underway day and night along Devonshire and Chalmers Streets. Always obey traffic signals for your safety.
Remember tracks are for trams – they are not for riding, driving or parking. Police are now enforcing the changed traffic conditions.
Finishing works are also underway in Surry Hills ahead of the start of passenger services in December 2019.
Landscaping is underway along Devonshire Street with around 50 new trees planted. Species include Tulip trees, Urbanite Ash and Brush Box.
Remaining works include footpath paving, landscaping, kerb and road restoration, asphalting and line marking.
Kerb reconstruction, paving and asphalting works will be undertaken at the following intersections:
- Foveaux, Elizabeth and Chalmers Streets
- Chalmers, Randle and Devonshire Streets
