Summer holiday planning for Inner West Light Rail

21 December 2018

Inner West Light Rail (IWLR) customers are reminded to plan ahead over the summer holiday period as some trips may not run as normal.

On New Year’s Eve (Monday 31 December), additional light rail services will run every eight to 10 minutes between 7pm and 4am to get customers to and from celebrations.

There will also be changed stopping patterns on the IWLR line on New Year’s Eve to help manage crowding. From 10.30pm to 2am, services will not operate between Exhibition Centre and Central including stops at Paddy’s Markets and Capitol Square.

Inner West customers are also reminded that some parts of the Inner West Light Rail (IWLR) line will be temporarily closed in early January so vital infrastructure upgrades can be made.

Work crews will take advantage of Sydney’s quieter network conditions during the summer holiday period to carry out essential work on the CBD and South East Light Rail (CSELR), including where it intersects with the IWLR at Hay and George Streets.

Work includes installation of overhead wiring (above existing IWLR infrastructure) and upgrade of communications systems.

Buses will replace IWLR services between Central and Convention during daytime hours and Central and The Star overnight from 6am Wednesday, 2 January to 6am Monday, 14 January.

Light Rail services will continue to run between Convention and Dulwich Hill throughout this period.

Normal light rail services are expected to resume from 6am on Monday 14 January.
