Stepping out in Surry Hills

1 February 2018

Pedestrians have been enjoying the new space in Zone 15, on Devonshire Street between Chalmers and Elizabeth Streets. With construction barriers removed from the zone just before Christmas, people have been enjoying the extra space, the plant displays and new artwork in the zone.

Temporary street furniture has also been installed at Holt Street, providing a sneak peak of how it will look as a pocket park.

Pedestrians can now make the most of this busy café and shopping area, as this zone will not be open to traffic until construction in Surry Hills is complete. Crews have some finishing work to complete in early 2018, including final telecommunication work, smart pole installation and landscaping.

At the intersection of Crown and Devonshire Streets crews took advantage of the lower traffic volumes over the summer holiday period to install track in both directions through this busy intersection. The work, carried out between 2 - 8 January, went smoothly and traffic has been returned to the roadway.

On the northern side of Devonshire Street footpath work to install the new low voltage electrical services is continuing. This work will be carried out during both day and night shifts over the coming weeks.

In Zone 16, Devonshire Street between Elizabeth and Steel Streets, the temporary watermain pipes were removed during December, with properties now connected to the new watermain.

The majority of utility work has also been completed in Zone 17, Devonshire Street between Steel and Crown Streets, with a small number of properties remaining to be connected to the new electrical and water services.

The team has been working during January to open up Parkham Lane. This will allow traffic from the laneway to access Bourke Street, as Parkham Place and the Langton Centre car park will be occupied for works over coming months.

At Moore Park, work is ramping up at the intersection of Anzac Parade, Alison Road and Dacey Avenue. This is a challenging, busy intersection for crews as they work towards installing track here.

New lane arrangements are now in place southbound on Anzac Parade, approaching the intersection, to make room for a worksite in the centre of the roadway.

Over coming months more lane changes will be implemented as work progresses. Please follow signage and drive to conditions through this area.
