ALTRAC’s Surry Hills Community Relations team will be at the Surry Hills Markets on Saturday, 3 November from 1pm to 3pm to answer questions and provide an update on the CBD and South East Light Rail project. Smartpoles are the focus across Surry Hills. Night work will continue in zone 14 to progress both the installation of smartpoles as well as the construction of the Central Chalmers Street light rail stop. Concrete pours for the platforms have been completed and the next stage is the installation of the structural steel frame.
Smartpole installation is also underway in zone 15. The zone is also progressing utilities work and footpath paving is underway.
Telecommunications work in the Holt Street pit in zone 16 is on track to be completed by the end of the month. Sewer main works were successfully completed this month, and kerb, footpath work and smartpole installation is progressing in the zone.
The Riley Street and Devonshire Street intersection in zone 17 will remain closed until the end of December to facilitate works on the Surry Hills light rail stop. The team is preparing to close the Marlborough Street and Devonshire Street intersection to enable kerb and footpath reinstatement works. Smartpoles are also being progressively installed across the zone. Work is also progressing on the Surry Hills light rail stop with platform slabs and structural steel on the platform completed.
Utility work is nearing completion in zone 18 with watermain installation now finished and property connections to go. The team is working on pile cap preparations ahead of smartpole installation starting late this month. Footpath and kerb work will also start this month, pending weather.
In zone 19, crews are busy with the construction of a shared bike and pedestrian path, smartpole installation and concrete pours for kerb reinstatement on South Dowling Street.
Upcoming work in the zone includes road resurfacing of Parkham Place and systems cabling work that will facilitate powering up the light rail vehicles.
