Light rail construction starts on High Street in Randwick

27 March 2017

Construction for the CBD and South East Light Rail will begin on High Street, Randwick between Wansey Road and Avoca Street from 31 March.

This milestone marks the beginning of construction for the end of line in Randwick where the future light rail terminus will be.

The Randwick terminus will revitalise High Street, providing increased amenities, services and improved public space. It will create a transport hub, providing better connections to bus stops, shops and services in Randwick town centre and nearby hospitals and medical clinics.

Access changes

High Street will be one-way westbound only between Clara Street and Wansey Road.

Eastbound traffic on High Street between Clara Street and Avoca Street will be for emergency services and local access only.

Emergency and drop-off to the Sydney Children’s Hospital Emergency Department, Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick and the Prince of Wales Hospital will be maintained at all times via Clara Street into High Street.

Traffic changes on High Street will be clearly signposted and traffic controllers will be in place at all times to assist pedestrians and vehicles safely around the construction site.

Bus changes

Seven bus stops along High Street will close to accommodate light rail construction. Five new bus stops will be added to provide access to the hospital precinct and UNSW.

Routes 348, 370, 400, 410, 418, 891 and M50 will use diverted routes and have new stopping arrangements.
