45th Tram Arrives in Randwick2 September 2019
Randwick has been bustling with activity with the 45th tram arriving at the stabling yard in August and is now being prepared for testing and commissioning activities.
Tram testing and driver training has expanded to day and night on weekdays and weekends between Randwick Terminus and Central Chalmers Street stop.
This is an exciting stage of the project, offering a preview of the months to come when services begin.
The arrival of this tram is significant as it exceeds the number of trams required (40 trams) to run passenger services from Randwick to Circular Quay starting in December 2019.
The final 15 trams are either in production or on their way to Sydney with all to be received by November ready for the Kingsford line to start carrying passengers from March 2020.
All trams undergo testing and commissioning along the tracks, so if you’re out and about Heads up, Play it Safe around Light Rail.
The final stages of low voltage cable relocation works are also now underway. Footpath restoration works near the corner of High Street and Avoca Street are nearing completion.
High Cross Park has been restored with turf installed. The last of the footpath and kerb re-instatement is also nearing completion.
