Moore Park tunnel taking shape

29 November 2016

The first base slab has been poured for what will be a nine-metre deep light rail tunnel under the Moore Park playing fields. There are two sections of the 500m tunnel, with work starting from the base up in Moore Park West, and from the roof down under Anzac Parade.

In Moore Park West, construction crews will excavate around 84,000 tonnes of fill which will be sustainably re-used across the project. In this section, the base slab and the first walls were constructed during November 2016. The tunnel roof and concrete for the track foundations are due to be installed early next year.

In the Anzac Parade section, the tunnel walls have been constructed and the roof will be installed during December 2016. Anzac Parade will be reinstated before excavation takes place under the road way.

With expected completion in late 2017, the tunnel will connect to the Eastern Distributor Bridge and emerge at a new future stop near Sydney’s Football Stadium and Cricket Ground.

The new shared path near the intersection of Robertson Road, Anzac Parade and Alison Road is now open to the public.
