Video: Tracks installed at major intersections1 February 2018
Works were completed over the summer holiday period at the intersection of George Street with Bridge and Grosvenor Streets, and with Hay Street. These works were carried out during the summer holiday period to minimise impacts to traffic during this important work.
At the Hay Street intersection, over 600m3 of concrete was poured and 250m of track installed. At this location, the CBD and South East Light Rail tracks will cross the Inner West Light Rail tracks. A track turnout will also allow CBD and South East Light Rail vehicles to turn from George Street onto the Inner West Light Rail tracks, to travel to the new maintenance depot at Lilyfield. The track through the intersection includes two turnouts, a diamond crossing and an H-crossing.
With the track in place, work was carried out to reinstate the remainder of the Inner West Light Rail track to both the east and west of the intersection, install poles and wires, complete storm water work, and reinstate the road pavement and footpaths on all sides of the intersection. During this work, routine maintenance was also carried out on the Inner West Light Rail.
In early January, the team also carried out a two-week closure of the intersection of George Street with Bridge and Grosvenor Streets. Work included the installation of the third rail that will power light rail vehicles in the north of the CBD, drainage work, smart pole preparations, electrical upgrades and pavement work.
We are looking forward to continuing a productive start to the year in the CBD in 2018.
