Utlity work focus for Surry Hills

Utility work continues to be the main focus of construction in Surry Hills, across most of the construction zones on Chalmers and Devonshire Streets.

In Zone 14, Chalmers Street between Eddy Avenue and Devonshire Street, utility investigation will be carried out near both the northern and southern exits of Central Station. Ongoing night work will continue on Elizabeth and Kippax Streets, and the bus stop on Elizabeth Street, between Foveaux and Kippax Streets will be relocated during some of this work. Stormwater and drainage work will continue within the construction zone.

Finishing work will continue in discrete areas of Zone 15, Devonshire Street between Chalmers and Elizabeth Streets during March. Work will include footpath, kerb and utility work.

Ongoing utility work will continue until mid-March in Zone 16, Devonshire Street between Elizabeth and Steel Streets. Crews are getting close to completing the main utility relocations in this zone. As utility work is completed, we will move toward track installation in this zone in coming months.

New traffic arrangements are now in place in this area with Holt Street closed to traffic, while Waterloo Street is open to traffic. From 2 to 11 March, weekend closures of Devonshire Street, between Waterloo and Steel Streets will be in place from 6am to 6pm. This work will be carried out over approximately four shifts. During this utility work, motorists will have access to the area from Riley Street by turning right down Devonshire Street under traffic control.

The majority of utility relocation work is also nearing completion in Zone 17, Devonshire Street between Steel and Crown Streets.

Track installation is nearly complete in the western section of Zone 18, Devonshire Street between Crown and Bourke Streets. From early March new traffic arrangements will be implemented in this area, with the full closure of Devonshire Street between Nickson and Bourke Streets. Local access will be maintained. Work will be carried out at the intersection of Devonshire and Bourke Streets over the Easter long weekend. Impacted stakeholders will be notified in advance.

In Olivia Gardens, car parking work on Nobbs Lane will be completed by early March, including asphalting and line marking. Ongoing light pole installation will continue, adjacent to South Dowling Street, as well as ongoing concreting and footpath work.
