Track installed in Wansey Road4 October 2017
With track installation now complete on Alison Road, Wansey Road is the latest part of the alignment to receive its first track installation. During September, 120 metres of track was laid and track installation is expected to progress further up Wansey Road in the coming weeks.
The first track will soon be laid in High Street, with preparations underway for two small sections of track slab to be poured near Hospital Road.
Also in High Street, utilities work is continuing and a major stormwater installation near Eurimbla Avenue is nearing completion (this had to be laid around three metres deep to avoid other services in the area).
Work is continuing to protect and relocate electrical, communications and other services to make way for the light rail.
To enable installation of poles to carry the overhead wiring for light rail vehicles in High Street, crews are about to start a program to relocate the existing overhead low voltage power lines onto new, temporary poles.
New kerb works were recently completed along Alison Road, allowing the road barriers to be removed between Wansey Road and John Street. Crews are ready to install new fencing panels alongside the Randwick Racecourse near John Street, and preparations are also underway to pour concrete for the new shared path in this area.
