Surry Hills update3 August 2018
The Central Chalmers Street stop in zone 14 will soon start to take shape with the final pour for the slab scheduled for early August ahead of steel framework construction.
Loading zone kerb works are underway in zone 15, while the focus in zone 16 is on finalising sewer and water main works following the completion of track installation during July. Kerb works started in July in Devonshire Street between Elizabeth and Holt Streets. The intersection of Holt and Devonshire Streets is now closed to allow for significant utility works over several months.
Works in zone 17 are focussed on completing track installation and concrete pours, as well as the full closure of Riley Street to facilitate the construction of the northern platform of the Surry Hills stop.
A significant milestone was achieved in Surry Hills with the Ausgrid low voltage outage successfully completed in zone 18. Eighty six properties now have new underground property connections to the low voltage network that has been commissioned, with a small number to be cutover in coming weeks. The team will now focus on relocating the last water main to the southern side of Devonshire Street. Excavations for new smartpole footings have started as temporary lighting is installed ahead of the new smartpoles being installed. Once these works are complete, drainage, kerb and footpath works will start.
