Surry Hills milestone3 January 2018
An exciting milestone was reached in Surry Hills just in time for Christmas, with construction substantially complete and the barriers removed from Devonshire Street, between Chalmers and Elizabeth Street, by the end of December.
Pedestrians can now make the most of this busy café and shopping area, as this zone will not be open to traffic until construction in Surry Hills is complete. Crews have some finishing work to complete in early 2018, including final telecommunication work, smart pole installation and landscaping.
On Devonshire Street, between Holt and Waterloo Streets, the newly installed water main has been commissioned and the temporary water pipes removed. This work will now progress along Devonshire Street.
Utility work is also ongoing on Devonshire Street to prepare for the undergrounding of power connections to properties. The removal of power poles will improve street amenity and make way for the poles and wires that will power the light rail.
During the summer holiday season we will take advantage of the lower traffic volumes to carry out work at the intersection of Devonshire and Crown Streets. Work will take place from 6am, Tuesday 2 January to 5am, Monday 8 January. Lane closures and local detours will be in place during this work.
