Poles, paving and track for Surry Hills

30 August 2018

Construction crews are making progress on the Central Chalmers Street stop in zone 14 as smartpole installation and paving works continue. Work is also underway on high voltage cable installation around Elizabeth Street between Kippax and Foveaux Streets to complete the connections to the Central Station substation to power the light rail in Surry Hills.

The loading zone works in zone 15 have now been completed. Ausgrid and Telstra works started in mid-August and will continue for a few months ahead of reinstating footpaths and kerbs, and paving works.

Preparations are underway for the temporary closure of Holt Street in zone 16 ahead of Ausgrid works, due to start early next month. Work to reinstate kerbs and footpaths has started on Devonshire Street between Elizabeth and Clisdell Streets.

A traffic switch in zone 17 took place in August to temporarily close Riley Street at Devonshire Street to enable construction of the northern platform of the Surry Hills stop.

Water main relocation and smartpole installation are now the focus in zone 18 following a traffic switch.

Track installation was successfully completed this month across South Dowling St in zone 19. This means there is track across all intersections in the Surry Hills and Moore Park precincts. With this work now done, the team will turn their attention to drainage works, footpath ramps and conduit installation. Upcoming work includes paving around the track on the eastern side of Bourke Street with piling for smartpoles starting in the coming weeks.
