Making tracks in Surry Hills31 May 2018
During May, the largest track slab concrete pour took place in zone 14, on Chalmers Street between Elizabeth Street and Devonshire Street, for the southern turn out section for the Central Light Rail Stop. This turn out section will help provide an efficient shuttle service by moving customers between Central Station and Moore Park during major events.
Track slab excavation, concrete pours, rail deliveries and installation are also progressing in this area.
In zone 17, Devonshire Street between Riley Street and Crown Street, and zone 18, Devonshire Street between Crown Street and Bourke Street, crews have been able to finalise track slab concrete pours and rail installation. The great weather has enabled steady progress with the works.
Track will be laid in early June between Nickson Street and Bourke Street. Other upcoming works include intermittent daytime closures of Wilshire Street for installation of a low voltage crossing. These works will be supported by traffic control to facilitate local access.
Excavation work has started for the retaining wall in the Langton Centre carpark in zone 19, between Bourke Street and South Dowling Street. Complex drainage works are also progressing across South Dowling Street and as part of this, the footpath in front of the Langton Centre was upgraded. Upcoming work includes night work to finish installing conduits.
