Making progress on major intersection15 January 2018
Work is underway at the intersection of George and Hay Streets in the CBD – one of the most complex intersections on the light rail project.
It’s here that the CBD and South East Light Rail tracks will cross the Inner West Light Rail tracks. A track turnout will also allow our CSELR trams to turn from George Street onto the IWLR tracks, to travel to the new maintenance depot at Lilyfield.
Teams are now working around the clock until 29 January to install 250m of single track and complete major construction as quickly as possible through this important intersection.
With a lot of people away for the holiday season, it’s a good time for us to carry out this important work when traffic is low to minimise disruption.
Routine maintenance has also been taking place on the Inner West Line, with services resuming today between Convention and Dulwich Hill. Replacement buses will continue to operate between Central and The Star until 29 January.
