Making progress in the CBD31 October 2017
During October Transport for NSW announced major light rail construction will wrap up on George Street between King and Park Streets from 3 December, and open the street up to pedestrians for the first time, making Christmas season all the more merry and giving the public a look at what the project will look like once it’s complete.
As a result, work is now progressing to install more paving around the light rail tracks, construct smart pole footings and finalise utility work in these zones.
Finishing work will continue from early January and will include final touches to the paving, smart poles and systems works, and construction of the QVB stop.
Track was installed at the George/Liverpool Street intersection during October following a series of weekend closures for extensive water main works through this busy CBD intersection.
Track installation also crossed the half way point during the month, with more than 12,000 metres of track now laid across the alignment.
Throughout October, preparation has been underway for the installation of tracks at the intersection of George and Bathurst Streets. A full closure of this intersection will be required in late November and stakeholders will be notified in advance of this work taking place.
