First light rail tracks laid in Randwick

29 January 2017

It’s been a big start to the year in Randwick with the installation of the first light rail tracks on Alison Road. A section of track was installed in zone 24, Alison Road between Darley and Wansey roads, earlier this month.

In addition to this, a 400m section of track foundations has been installed in zone 23, Alison Road between Anzac Parade and Darley Road, in preparation for buses returning to the busway in this location from late February 2017. Tracks will then be installed in this section overnight so that bus services are not disrupted.

Important work to install light rail track through the intersection of Alison Road and Darley Road will start from mid-February. The intersection will be closed on weekends for several months, with work taking place over 56 hours from late Friday evening to early Monday morning each weekend to avoid impacts to weekday traffic. Work will not take place at the intersection when race events are taking place at Randwick Racecourse.

Underground utility work will soon start at the intersection of Alison Road and Prince Street. The relocation of a kiosk in St George Reserve is almost complete.

Utility investigation activities will continue in zone 26, High Street between Wansey Road and Avoca Street as we work towards construction starting in this zone in the coming months. ALTRAC Light Rail will continue to work closely with stakeholders in this area to manage access during construction.

Work will also start in High Cross Park, beginning with site establishment in early February.
