Civil works focus for Kingsford and Kensington6 August 2018
During July, crews in zone 28 have focussed on stormwater works. These works are progressing on the eastern side of Anzac Parade between Abbotford and Carlton Streets, and once this section is completed, stormwater works will continue along Anzac Parade to Goodwood Street. Works to relocate a sewer line on the western side of Anzac Parade will also start this month. The team will shortly turn their attention to work on ES Marks light rail stop, and progressing works to fit out the Kensington light rail stop.
The stormwater line across Doncaster Avenue in zone 29 has now been completed, with the drainage line from Darling Street to Doncaster Avenue also in place. The next stage will be kerb works from Darling Street to Doncaster Avenue. The team is also preparing for a traffic switch to shift traffic west to enable progress on stormwater works along Doncaster Avenue to High Street.
University holidays enabled a significant amount of work to continue in zone 30.1, taking advantage of low traffic and pedestrian levels. These works included the concrete pour for a new pedestrian footpath in front of the Tyree Building in readiness for paving finishing works. The lean mix pour for pavement at the bus layover on the western side of Anzac Parade was completed, and further investigation works around fig tree roots were carried out to progress footpath works on the eastern side of Anzac Parade. Teams are preparing to start on stormwater works on the western side of Anzac Parade from the University Mall, as stormwater works continue on the eastern side. This includes the removal of pavement to extract redundant utilities and clear the space for stormwater pipes.
Drainage works are progressing along the western side of Anzac Parade from Barker Street to Rainbow Street in zone 30. Kerb works will also start on the western side of Anzac Parade now that the eastern side has been completed. The teams are also preparing for a traffic switch to move the worksite to the centre of Anzac Parade to start work on the Kingsford light rail stop in early August.
Drainage works and undergrounding of communications and electrical networks is now the focus in zone 31. The teams are also preparing for lean mix pours, installing pits and combined services ahead of track being laid in early August.
