Chalmers Street taking shape27 June 2018
Work has started on the Central Chalmers Street light rail stop, located in zone 14. The middle section of the stop has been poured with works progressing to the western side of Central Station.
The Elizabeth Street and Devonshire Street intersection is progressing with some of the last remaining utilities works to be completed by late November. Paving works will start in this area soon.
A full closure of the Devonshire Street entrance to Steel Street will enable crews to complete the installation of track slab and rail. The closure will start in early July and be in place for up to two months. Affected residents and businesses have been notified and will be provided with access via Adelaide Street. Residents will be able to turn right from Riley Street to Adelaide Street, onto Steel Street.
Street light pits and associated conduit installation continued throughout June, while preparations have started for the Ausgrid pit excavations, scheduled for August, at the Holt Street intersection. Pedestrian access to properties will be maintained for upcoming footpath and kerb work.
Rail installation along Devonshire Street between Riley and Crown Streets is nearing completion with crews preparing to start construction of the Surry Hills light rail stop in July.
High voltage and low voltage cable installation is progressing in zone 18, Devonshire Street between Crown and Bourke Streets. Rail installation on the eastern side will be complete by early July and the aim is to reopen Nickson Lane in mid-July.
Critical drainage works are the focus in zone 19 along the light rail corridor between Bourke and South Dowling Streets. These works will result in the installation of new drainage and pavement works ahead of track being laid during July.
