Adventurous turtle trio safe and well

21 November 2017

A trio of wayward turtles was gently relocated by an ecologist after light rail construction crew members spotted the reptiles on a work site adjacent to busy Alison Road following heavy rain late last month.

The project ecologist located three adult native Macquarie Turtles (Emydura macquarii), the most commonly seen turtle species recorded in Centennial Parklands.

Work in the immediate area was stopped while the three adult turtles were safely moved to a more appropriate home in the Kensington Ponds and the comfort of protective vegetation and water.

The welfare of our animal species is a top priority and we are committed to doing everything we can to protect creatures from harm.

ALTRAC has checked and will continue to monitor fencing along this stretch of light rail construction to help prevent any more turtles from entering the work site in the future
